New Leadership at Resorts World Las Vegas Boosts Credit Outlook
Recent changes at Resorts World Las Vegas are expected to improve the property's credit outlook and streamline parent company Genting Bhd's corporate structure. The establishment of the venue's first board of directors, alongside key executive appointments, marks a significant shift in operations.
Jim Murren, former MGM Resorts International CEO, has been appointed as chairman, while Alex Dixon will assume the role of chief executive officer on January 16. Both executives bring extensive gaming industry experience, with Murren recently serving as chairman of the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) in the UAE.
According to CBRE analysts Colin Mansfield and Connor Parks, these appointments are "credit positive" for Resorts World Las Vegas. The analysts suggest Murren could play a crucial role in simplifying Genting Bhd's U.S. strategy by potentially unifying multiple restricted groups under a single capital structure and creating an integrated operating strategy for the company's Las Vegas and New York assets.
The new leadership team's expertise is particularly valuable as Resorts World Las Vegas addresses regulatory challenges related to anti-money laundering (AML) violations. Murren's regulatory experience and industry reputation could help navigate the Nevada Gaming Control Board's complaint regarding AML and illegal gambling activities.
Malaysia-based Genting Bhd operates casino properties across Malaysia, Singapore, and the US, currently functioning as separate units. The new management structure could facilitate a more streamlined approach to US operations, though plans for a New York stock listing of US assets remain uncertain.
Both Dixon and Murren's previous experience with major casino operators like MGM Resorts and Caesars Entertainment positions them well to build strong management teams and potentially increase Resorts World's market share in Las Vegas.
