Karruah Parkinson was critically injured when several players allegedly followed him out of the venue and shot him after he had left them poker chips as a gesture of goodwill. According to his lawyer, Okoye Morgan, Parkinson attempted to find security during the incident but found no officers at their post.
Police discovered Parkinson in his bullet-riddled vehicle and rushed him to HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital. He continues to suffer severe pain from injuries to his stomach and arms, with bullets having narrowly missed his vital organs.
Morgan argues that Bestbet failed in its duty to protect patrons through adequate security measures. The incident has severely impacted Parkinson's physical and mental health, leaving him traumatized and unwilling to visit casinos again.
While Orange Park police have not made any arrests, they are investigating three suspects. This incident follows another armed robbery at the same venue in February 2024, where a player was robbed of $7,000 at gunpoint after winning $20,000. In that case, police arrested 21-year-old Sean Evans after he dropped his phone while fleeing.
Bestbet has declined to comment on the ongoing investigation.
